A Revelation of Relationship
Where is God in our hardships? Where is God on our bad days? Where is God in the middle of darkness, depression, worry and fear? Recently I’ve been asking these questions (its just been rough all around, right?!) Believe it or not, God is not distant in Heaven during all of these times in our lives or being pushed out by darkness.
Psalm 139 says this:
7 Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
8 If I ascend to heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead), behold, You are there.
Behold! You are there. Even in the hell, even in the darkest places of our lives that may physically or spiritually feel like hell—God is with us. Romans 8 offers a similar thought where Paul says that he is convinced that nothing can separate us from the love of God, not death or life, angels or demons, not worries, not the powers of hell can separate us. God is always with us.
God being with me, God being with you, changes everything. No longer is He is distant God, but a present, near God. It is not just a fact and a revelation but a game changer. God is with me, even up to this very moment. We cannot walk victoriously in times when darkness tries to overcome us without this revelation of relationship. In fact, those are the times when the relationship needs to become more known. You may feel like you are in literal hell or spiritual hell but let me tell you—God is with you. And if you’re reading this today, I know that He will show you.
Pslam 139 continues:
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will cover me,
And the night will be the only light around me,”
12 Even the darkness is not dark to You and conceals nothing from You,
But the night shines as bright as the day;
Darkness and light are alike to You.
The Lord told me that there is no place too dark where He is not there. That the light of His love is already dwelling in these dark places. Isn’t that what these scriptures are saying?
“I’ve been waiting for my children to find me in the midst of their darkness,” says the Lord. “If you find me there, I will light up the darkness like a match in an explosion.
I have the light switch and I’ve been waiting a long time for you realize it was there all along and to turn on the light.
Let that light shine so bright, let it blind an ocean of darkness because the dark has never been able to overcome the light. And it never will.”
He is there with you in your pain. He is there with you in your darkest hour. He is with you through the night. But it doesn’t stop there. He will turn that night into day. Find that His love is present in the darkness, find that the presence of His Spirit with you even to what feels like the depths of hell. And realizing the nearness of Almighty God changes everything. It brings a revelation of relationship, that God is near and loving and comforting and that everything WILL be okay.
