Overwhelming Victory Is Ours!
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors and gain an overwhelming victory through Him who loved us [so much that He died for us].
Romans 8:37 AMP
Have you heard the phrase we are more than conquerors before? Have you heard that the victory is ours? We hear it time and time again that we have the victory through Jesus because of course, he took back the keys of death. But maybe we have not fully learned how to apply it in our lives.
Victory comes after a battle. Victory is often not granted without a fight. I used to not get this, thinking that victory was just something that instantaneously appeared, not something I fought for. But there is a reason Paul said that we must put on our armor of God so that we are able to stand against the strategies of the devil. The weapons we use are not for flesh and blood to fight humans but to take down the powers of darkness who are coming against us. (2 Corinthians 10:3)
Until recently, I was not made fully aware of this spiritual battle we are called to fight, especially the realities of this battle within me. Do you know that the enemy prowls every day looking to devour us? (1 Peter 5:9) It is actually up to us to identify these attacks and come against them in the victory of Jesus. That is why we gain overwhelming victory!
So how do we fight against these unseen attacks? Well the famous armor of God of course!
“Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
Ephesians 6:13-17
Let me break down each of these elements in a more helpful way so that we can walk out victory every day of our lives: (not just the good days but the bad days too!)
The Belt of Truth: Hold onto the truth of who God made you to be, the truth of who He is. Let that be the first clasp and center to your personhood. Holding onto the truth of your identity, letting it hold onto your personhood
Body Armor of Righteousness: Cloth yourself in the spotless, blameless, right living given to us by Jesus. Return back to the innocence that is being declared over you.
Shoes of Peace: Be ready and be prepared to go, to move and to do it out of peace, not striving. Bring that peace wherever you go, combatting chaos with the Shalom of God.
Shield of Faith: Now this is a tricky one because the Lord recently showed me that I had left mine to rust and I’ve been allowing fiery darts of lies and discouragement hit me. But we need to pick it up and fight, using our Faith of who God is and what we believe the Word says to block the darts of lies. We can’t just be walking around with arrows in our hearts everyday because we’ve allowed the devil to hit us with them.
Helmet of Salvation: Cover your mind with the truth that Jesus saves, He saves you and has saved your mind, your mind is tree of all torment and worry.
Sword of the Sprit: This is the Word of God which God says we can use to fight back on the all attacks of the enemy.
–Does the devil try to whisper lies in your ear to be afraid? Then speak back Psalm 56:3-4
–Is the enemy trying to put fear and worry in your mind? Then speak back Philippians 4:6-7 or Isaiah 26:3-4
–Does he try to lie to you and say God doesn’t have the best intentions for you, that you will fail? Then declare back Jeremiah 29:11
–> These are just examples but the Word of God is filled with answers to every single thing the enemy will ever try to hit you with
It’s time to fight back! We are more than conquerors and I hope with these tools, it makes it easier for you to cast out the darkness with light! Overwhelming victory is ours!
