Wait on God, Hope in God

Hope. Hope is powerful and yet, often hope is elusive. But why is that? I believe it is because we actually don’t fully understand the proper process of hope. In the Bible, waiting and hoping are used as similar words. Thus why I included two translations of the same verse above, because one translation uses wait and the other uses hope. It is because those who wait on the Lord also are those who hope in the Lord. The process of hope looks a lot like waiting. 

Waiting on God

Time is relative to God, He is the Creator and the Bible says that to God, a thousand years are just a passing day to Him. To the eternal God, years don’t seem to sway Him in His divine work of creating and shaping our past, present, and futures. He makes everything beautiful in its own time and He is not in any rush to finish His divine master piece. He is patient, the most patient of all. Filled with unfailing love and patience for us all. So why do we rush our own processes or rush God if He’s never done that to us?

I’ve been starting to realize that God’s work always happens over time. Just like the mountains were formed over millions of years but also in an instant, God takes time to shape us into how He wants us to be. So naturally, that requires waiting to fully see the Lord break out in our lives. We can very easily go and create something superficially and instantaneously, go make a man-made counterfeit, just like Abraham did while waiting on the true promise son. But waiting on the Lord requires true strength, just like this verse says. It requires true patience. And hope.

Choosing to Hope

We can easily choose to wait in defeat. We can wait disconnected, we can wait hopelessly. But that is not what the Bible says brings us up to Heavenly heights. No, while waiting on God to do want only He can do, we must hope. We must put our hope in Him, we must choose to hold onto hope. Only then can we live in this victory, being strengthen and uplifted—live in an elevation where things start having a different perspective.

What does hope look like in the waiting? It means holding onto God’s goodness and trusting in His goodness. Trusting in His good work. Trusting that, in the right moment, at the right time, His plans will unfold in your life. Not losing heart in Him and His promises, not allowing yourself to sink into the pit of discouragement, to take up residence in the hall of hopelessness. Hope is believing that your life is on a trajectory of a better place, that wherever you are in the testing and the process, you are only at a temporary stop on the train ride to destiny. When you choose to put your hope in God, you are choose to embrace the waiting time. But in that, allowing yourself to wait properly—wait in hope of the better things yet to come.

When you choose to wait and hope in God, that is where your strength is refreshed. And that is where you fly, fly up high like an eagle, close to Heaven and close to God. Hope is the secret to flying. Where you never grow tired and where you know that waiting means just longer moments with God in any momentary stop in the journey towards glory.
